From ten feet away, a QArtCode is a functional QR code. From ten inches away, it is a mosaic of hundreds of photos.

QR Codes

QR codes are omnipresent. An instruction manual uses one to link to a video. In a parking garage, use one to pay. In a restaurant, use one to order direct to your table.

We know how to scan them. We've used them to open websites. But they can do more. You can use one to connect to a WiFi network. You can use one to share contact information. Technically, a QR code can hold any text. WiFi logins and contact cards are just two formats our phones understand.

A QR code serves a purpose. Once visitors know what it does, scanning takes ten seconds. To hint at its purpose, you can add a visual indicator.

Photo Mosaics

A QArtCode isn't black on white. It's colorful and detailed, and it draws viewers in. The closer they get, the more they see: the largest photos first, then, at ten inches, a photo on every square of the code. There is a visual hierarchy. The author chose which are important enough to be large. Browsing the smaller ones is a treasure hunt. Where's Waldo? There are too many to see them all, and nobody is meant to.

Hallways & Foyers

Featured wall art, whether a painting or a photograph, is viewed from a distance. You sit on a couch or at a table. Then you notice it. It might merit a remark or just convey style. That does not work for a QArtCode. From ten feet away, it is a QR code, good for a ten-second scan. You are too far away to admire the photos.

A QArtCode isn't made for the stage. It excels in the wings. You let someone into the foyer. Now is a great time to have them join your WiFi. If they are curious, the conversation gets rolling quickly. On the way to the bathroom, a guest notices this strange patchwork of photos. Who knows what strikes them. That hallway, typically reserved for runners-up, has a different kind of star.
